You know what? Bugger the haters. I want a new Point Break movie, because lets face it, sports have become far more extreme over the last couple of decades than they were in the original 1991 flick. And what we’ve got here, is essentially The Fast and The Furious: Extreme Sports Edition…TO THE MAX.

In Alcon Entertainment’s fast-paced, high-adrenaline action thriller “Point Break,” a young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill seeking elite athletes, led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a string of staggering crimes that kill innocent people and send the world’s economy into a tailspin.

Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the callous architects of these inconceivable crimes.

And there’s a good reason why I’m getting that Fast and Furious la familia vibe here. That’s because director Ericson Core was the director of photography on The Fast and the Furious. And I’m okay with that. The remake looks like it has some solid action set-pieces, cheesy dialogue and even cheesier action. And if that isn’t living up to the spirit of the original Point Break, then I’m lost. To the max again.

Point Remake stars Luke Bracey, Edgar Ramirez, Ray Winstone, Delroy Lindo and Teresa Palmer. It’ll be getting extreme on Christmas day when it lies on the beach and fires several rounds into the air.

  1. They should call it something else, not ‘Point Break’. It does look awesome though

Why’s Johnny Utah looking like Patrick Swayze?

Yeah, it’s not really related to the original other than lifting the broader plot.

Some really shoddy dialogue and acting in there (not Delroy Lindo, he’s always good) and that new Utah looks like Heath Ledger. This film looks like it’s completely missed the spirit of the first one, soul-surfing-bank-robbing-ex-presidents should have been left alone. If they called this something else there would have been similarities but this is not Point Break.

Keanu hasn’t aged well. This one looks older than the one from decades ago, unlike real Keanu.

Real Keanu could have now played in a Point Break sequel that took place only a year after the last one
