I loved the first trailer that we saw of Kubo and the Two Strings. It was deep, showed the potential for a great story and had an awesome soundtrack. I’ve got mixed feelings about some of Laika’s previous animation movies (Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls), but after seeing this new trailer – I am convinced that this one is going to one of their best movies to date.

This trailer tells a little more of the story than what we saw last time and also adds more humour to go along with the deep and unique story and heavy emotion, which I think shows that it will have a wide appeal to both adults and kids alike. Not to mention the animation looks really sharp and the strong characterization that is shown means this is likely to be one impressive piece of animation to feast your eyes upon.

And its good to see the score remains strong with this trailer alongside the extra footage. I’m keen to hear how it will all come together in the final movie.

The film has an incredibly impressive voice cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes, and George Takei and was directed by Travis Knight. It opens in theaters on August 19th, 2016.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones) ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato (George Takei), Akihiro (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and Kameyo (Brenda Vaccaro). But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (MatthewMcConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Rooney Mara) to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family and fulfill his heroic destiny.
