A Meyers Christmas

Almost Christmas? But it’s only April! Easter isn’t even a month old and we’re all still celebrating our annual tradition of dressing Nick up as an Easter egg and hiding him, sometimes if it’s quiet we can still hear him calling.

Anyway, while your local stores and malls wait until October before unleashing the tidal wave of advertising for the most commercialised holiday of the year, this trailer Almost Christmas isn’t going to wait. It’s a Christmas comedy about a dysfunctional family coming together over the holiday period… and I nearly hurt myself typing that.

The official plot synopsis is as follows:

Almost Christmas is the unlikely story of an estranged family that must reunite for their first Christmas since the death of the beloved family matriarch.

You know what? I didn’t hate that, and I was expecting too because we’ve all seen one of those cringe-inducing, saccharine-sweet Christmas comedies that the holiday seems to inspire at some point; so colour me pleasantly surprised. The jokes are silly but they have a nice flow to them – this might be the first time I actually want to see a Christmas movie in a very long time. What do you think?

Almost Christmas, formerly known as A Meyers Christmas, is due for release in the US on 11 November 2016. Written and directed by David E, Talbert (Baggage Claim) it stars Danny Glover, Omar Epps, Kimberly Elise, Mo’Nique, Romany Malco, Nicole Ari Parker, J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Jessie Usher and D.C. Young Fly.
