Do you know how I know I’m getting old? I remember watching Woody Harrelson as the nice, clean-cut bartender on Cheers, and then being shocked by his transformation in Natural Born Killers – and now I’m shocked again to realise he’s become a curmudgeonly old man. Well, playing one anyway in Wilson.

It’s the upcoming R-rated comedy based on the 2010 satirical graphic novel of the same name by Daniel Clowes, and who’s also written the script, which is described by Wikipedia as: “starring the misanthropic Wilson, the book is structured as 70 one-page gag strips, with days or even years passing between the strips. Wilson is condescending and supercilious, and insists on communicating his alienating dissatisfactions with all those he meets, even with strangers, and most often unsolicited.”

The official plot synopsis is as follows:

[Woody] Harrelson stars as Wilson, a lonely, neurotic and hilariously honest middle-aged misanthrope who reunites with his estranged wife (Laura Dern) and gets a shot at happiness when he learns he has a teenage daughter (Isabella Amara) he has never met. In his uniquely outrageous and slightly twisted way, he sets out to connect with her.

And before you take a look, I should probably give a NSFW warning for some strong language – so maybe use your headphones if you’re at the big W:

I think the plot is pretty much irrelevant to this movie, it looks more like one to watch purely to see Woody Harrelson being a complete d*ck towards everyone he comes across – and he looks damn good doing it. It appeals because he’s saying and doing what so many of us often think about, but don’t say or do because, well, we don’t actually want to be like Nick Wilson.

And this isn’t a one man movie either, just take a look at the rest of the cast below – there’s some top quality comedic talent there.

What do you think?

Wilson is due for release in the US on 24 March 2017. Directed by Craig Johnson, it stars Woody Harrelson, Laura Dern, Isabella Amara, Judy Greer, Cheryl Hines, Margo Martindale, Shaun Brown and Tom Proctor.
