Okay we are done.
It is being reported today by Reuters that Toshiba has given up on the HD-DVD and is going to give Blu-Ray a free run. They will continue to sell HD-DVD players until everyone stops buying them but they are no longer putting any money into research and development for HD-DVD.
This decision is estimated to cost them hundreds of millions of dollars in expected HD-DVD revenue, but after the announcement by Wal-Mart on Friday, that they will only be stocking Blu-Ray, it was only a matter of time.
Personally I am just glad the war is over. Now we can start betting on how long it will take Microsoft to release a Blu-Ray add on.

Eh… How will MS release a BD Player for a price cheaper than a PS3? Standalone BD Players are more expensive than a PS3. I guess we all will have to buy a PS3 😉

It’s all Micro$ofts fault. The only reason Blew-Ray won is because it’s in the PS3 and HD-DVD isn’t in the 360.

I think MS did the right thing in the long run. This is not the 360’s war, MS get very little if HD-DVD won as opposed to what Sony gets for a BR victory.
Consider the fight. Even if Warner had stayed agnostic or gone HD-DVD Sony and probably Disney would never have given up and the war would never have ended.
I doubt there will even be a BR add-on, we’ll sooner see cheap Chinese BR players first. Microsofts mission now is to leverage what they started – cost reduce the 360 and flood the market.
