Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

If you’ve had the kind of crappy day that I’ve had, then I’ve got something that will make it up to you: This epic lip-sync off battle between actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Stephen Merchant and Jimmy Fallon. Milli Vanilli would have been so proud.

Are you just now coming out of therapy after witnessing the bloody events of “The Rains of Castamere”, the shocking penultimate episode of Game of Thrones season 3? Well, spoiler alert! More people are going to die in the next season. A lot more. Because George R.R. Martin is a mean old man who gets his jollies from making grown men and women cry.

Kit Harrington, who plays the not-knowing-anything Jon Snow, explained.

“More deaths this season than any other. You’d think they’d turn the deaths down but they don’t. They realize that’s a successful option so they’re just killing more people than we’ve ever killed.”

We still have no idea which characters will be getting the prequel origin story treatment in the planned Star Wars spinoff movies, but the folks over at HuffPost have two suggestions: Grand Moff Tarkin and Mon Mothma. And if those names mean nothing to you, then you’re not as much of a geek as you think you are.

Here’s a new quad poster for Gavin Hood’s Ender’s Game adaptation, which shows that somebody over in their marketing department just figured out how to copy, reverse image and paste in new backgrounds.

So remember that new Jack Ryan with Chris Pine and Kenneth Branagh, the one that’s supposed to come out in just over 2 months time, but we have yet to see a single frame of footage from? Yeah, that might totally be Martin Scorsese’ fault. The acclaimed director is apparently still tinkering away at his next pic, the Leonardo DiCaprio led The Wolf of Wall Street, to try and get the film’s apparently over 3-hour long cut down to his liking. So much so, that there’s a very good chance that the film will miss it’s planned November 15 release date. Paramount isn’t too happy over this, because if they delay it to next year, the film – which looks like it could be a serious awards contender – will miss its window of eligibility for Oscars.

So what’s the plan? Well, according to some reports Paramount are considering bumping Jack Ryan: Shadow One from its Christmas Day slot to perhaps February or March 2014, leaving a gap for The Wolf of Wall Street to still be released this year.

This is of course nothing new for Scorsese, whose Gangs of New York and Shutter Island were both released about a year after their initial planned dates, thanks to his post-production editing.

Funnyman Jason Segel may find himself in a couple of sticky situations as he will be starring in a new untitled heist comedy, based on a true story about a massive maple syrup theft in 2012. Yes, maple syrup. The film is apparently inspired by “real events reported in the Montreal Gazette by journalist Anne Sutherland. Over $20 million worth of maple syrup was stolen in 2012 from Quebec’s Federation of Maple Syrup Producers and to date, over 20 individuals have been arrested in conjunction with the heist as prosecutors try to make the charges stick.”

Oh, Canadian crime, you so crazy!

There’s a new TV spot our for Thor: The Dark World which is mostly things we’ve seen before but contains a new snippet proving that even the God of Thunder has some lady problems.

If you’re excited for Clerks III, you may need to curb your enthusiasm a bit. It seems Kevin Smith first needs to see a man about a walrus. Playlist reports that Tusk – the weird horror movie that Smith’s making, apparently based on a real life Gumtree ad from a man seeking a roommate who would be willing to dress and act like a walrus for two hours a day – is not only shaping up rapidly, but also taking precedence over all his other work. Justin Long and Red State star Michael Parks have apparently signed on to star, and according to what Smith told EW, he’s looking to film this this rather rapidly.

” ‘Tusk’ is a moveable feast at like $2 million and change, so it was way more nimble to put that together. ‘Tusk’ was just something to do while waiting for news back on ‘Clerks III.’ Suddenly, people were like, ‘Really? A human walrus? That sounds f–ked up.’ It suddenly took pole position. Then I started going, ‘Look, I do this, it’s going to make ‘Clerks III’ even easier to do. I can warm up for ‘Clerks III.’ It’s been a couple of years. Maybe I need some warmup pitches. But you definitely will see ‘Tusk’ before you’ll see ‘Clerks III.’ And if I have my way, you’ll see ‘Tusk’ up in Sundance in January.”

Thanks to th bald head with muscles, Vin Diesel, we now have our first look at – and official confirmation of – Kurt Russell in Fast and Furious 7. And if you were expecting him to look anything other than very Kurt Russellish, well then I have some bad news for you.

Just look at this newly released set pic from Transformers: Age of Extinction. Look at the look of pure joy on director Michael Bay’s face as he mans the camera right next to his first love: explosions.

And the not-so-little mech-engine that could keeps on chugging. Sitting at $407 million for worldwide gross, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim is now officially the highest grossing live-action original film for 2013.

When it comes to my Star Wars supergeekdom, I fall in a minority in that I don’t think the Prequel Trilogy is completely worthless. Sure there are plenty of moments – most of them named either Jake Lloyd or Jar-Jar Binks – where The Phantom Menace makes me question my faith in humanity, but there’s also plenty of awesomeness to be found in the pod races, Darth Maul vs Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul vs Obi Wan, etc. And the same goes for Attack of the Clones, with it’s Jedi army, Dooku vs Yoda, etc. The point is there are some great fanboy moments in there, it’s just all the surrounding stupidity that’s the problem. If you could get rid of said stupidity, you could have some epic films on your hands, which is exactly what the folks at Belated Media also seem to think. They’ve done more than think though, making these two videos for Episodes 1 & 2 (Ep 3 is still to come), where they excise all of George Lucas’ sucked-from-his-beard bad ideas and suggest alternatives that fans would actually want to see. In other words, “What if the Star Wars prequels Were Actually Good?”.

  1. “make the charges stick.” That’s bad, and whoever wrote that should feel bad. 🙁
