Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

We kick off today with a little bit of creepiness. Two teaser trailers have popped up online for Bates Motel, the new A&E drama series that will act as a prequel Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic thriller Psycho. But the series is set in modern times. Yeah, wrap your grey squishy bits around that.

The new teaser TV spots are titled “Hands” and “Feet” and you can easily see why.

Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman will be keeping things spacey for her next project as she’ll pen a new sci-fi adventure for Disney call Terra Incognita. And that’s pretty much the full extent of what we know about it. “Terra Incognita”, as Google Translate informs me, is Latin for “Unknown Land”. And thus concludes the educational bit of our presentation.’

Movies.com is currently working the fanboys into a frothing frenzy with two of their articles asking first “Which 2012 Blockbusters Deserve Major Oscar Consideration?” and then following that up with “Which Oscar Contender Do You Hope Is NOT Nominated?”

Here’s the first official look (i.e. not set pics) at Ashton Kutcher as late Polo Neck World Champion and Apple leader Steve Jobs in director Joshua Michael Stern’s biopic jOBS. Yes, that name is still silly.

And now to play one of those “Spot the Differences” games with this original pic of the real Jobs.

Things have been reasonably quiet on the Terminator front after Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Productions bought the rights and announced plans to make a new film about mankind’s battle against the machines. Fast and Furious 6 director was once attached to direct, but since he pulled the project appeared to stall.

Looks like appearances were deceiving though. The project wasn’t actually stalled, rather the initial sale of rights have only now been concluded. And with that, Ellison’s brother, producer David Ellison has also now come on board.

The Ellison siblings will now be throwing out what visions Lin might have had, as they plan to start fresh with new screenwriters. David Ellison has a reputation for getting big budget blockbusters (World War Z, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Star Trek Into Darkness, Jack Reacher and the Mission: Impossible series) made, so this should mean that the project will get some traction soon.

A couple of new posters have popped up online showing Mike and Sulley living the varsity life in Monsters University. That first poster is actually eerily similar to how Darryn and I normally stand next to each other, though he normally needs even more textbooks.

It was recently announced that Hugh Jackman would be reprising his role in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but the verdict was still out on just how large his involvement would actually be. Would he be doing more than just dropping unexpected F-bombs (easily one of the greatest cameos of recent years) like he did in First Class? Jackman certainly thinks so:

“I did a three-hour, three-word cameo in the last one. It literally took me three hours. I have been talking to Bryan Singer about doing something in this. There will be more claws in this.”

So what, he’s going to be dropping another F-bomb while giving somebody the claw?

That’s it! Samuel L Jackson has had it with the motherf@#$ing ex-slave bounter hunters on this motherf@#$ing plantation! Jackson spoke to Total Film about Django Unchained and specifically what his character, Stephen, Calvin Candie’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) houseslave’s relationship with the titular Django (Jame Foxx):

“None. He hates him. They don’t like each other. They have a very contentious relationship. Partly because Django’s free, and partly because it’s black-on-black crime. That’s all it is.

“I see him and I don’t like him. He sees me and he doesn’t like me. I have a lot of power. I’ll say that. I’m a slave with a lot of power, which is not a good combination.”

“…Calvin Candie runs a pretty interesting plantation that’s the biggest cotton plantation in Mississippi. I essentially run the plantation.

“I’m his eyes and ears when he’s not around, or even when he is around, because his major concern is Mandingo fighting. He raises fighters; guys who kill each other.”

Speaking of Jamie Foxx, he has now finally been officially confirmed as playing Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He also provided Entertainment Tonight with his very own blurb for his version of the electrifying villain.

“[He’s a] genius electrician-type person and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world… [T]he next thing you know, he turns it on.”

Electro… turns it on? Ohm Jamie Foxx, you just couldn’t resist that electric bit of word play, could joule?

Here’s a new featurette for Jack Reacher featuring author Lee Child talking about Tom Cruise portraying his fan favourite character on-screen. I guess when they recorded this, Child had to leave early to go home and count all his royalty cheque money so he never got around to the part about how Tom Cruise’s resemblance to the literary Jack Reacher is about as close as mine is to Megan Fox.

Local animation production house Triggerfish’s Adventures in Zambezia has been nominated in two categories at the 40th Annual Annie Awards. This is the first time that a South African production has ever been nominated in the animation world’s equivalent of the Oscars. Composer Bruce Retief has been nominated for Best Music while Jim Cummings, who voices the villain Budzo, was nominated for Best Voice Artist.

If you’re been worried that the Big Flannel, George Lucas, won’t be able to stick to his hands-off promise when it comes to the new Star Wars trilogy, Lucas is here to assure that he is nothing more than a “consultant”. What does a “consultant” do? Well, apparently just sit out around twiddling your thumbs (over large stacks of money) until somebody needs a walking Star Wars version of Google.

“[If the filmmakers ask],‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that.’ Basically I’m not — I don’t really have much to do.”

Lucas also posted a new part in the series of videos featuring him and new Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. In this one they discuss what gives Star Wars its universal appeal.

Of course, one thing about Star Wars that’s always appealed were the Jedi’s and their mysterious Force powers (first person to mention midi-chlorians gets their face introduced to some sandpaper and lemon juice), and now those Force powers can be yours to wield! But just like most appealing things in life, this power comes at a price: $20 and your shame!
