There are just 52 days and 12 hours left (I’m just randomly guessing, and don’t have a Countdown clock, I swear) until I finally get to feast my geeky eyeballs on The Avengers.
With the marketing campaign in full swing, beaming awesomeness straight into our cerebellums, it’s easy to forget that this is really just the end of the first chapter in Marvel’s new shared universe saga.
Leading that next wave from Marvel is Iron Man 3, and thanks to Latino Review, we may have our first hints at what it may be about.[Clearly if you want to know absolutely nothing about IM3 before you view it, then SPOILER WARNING, but since this is not only speculation but probably what would be revealed in the first trailer, I think this should be safe for most of you.]
Da7e at LR – who are usually very reliable for these types of things – received an anonymous tip-off from somebody who had been at The Avengers test screening, revealing that the next film may be drawing on Warren Ellis’ immensely popular Extremis storyline.
And for those of you that don’t have 4 mins to spare, the cliff notes version:
– Nanobots, people!
– Nanobots that make villains
– Nanobots that can also make Tony Stark more than a man in a suit.
– Which is an idea planted in Tony Stark’s head by Captain America in THE AVENGERS because Avengers leads directly into Iron Man 3.
– Production on Iron Man 3 starts in May.
I loved the Extremis storyline as it finally took Tony Stark from just being a guy whose only abilities were lots of money, being slightly smarter than most and a propensity for consuming vast amounts of alcohol, to true superhero status.
Like Da7e mentioned, Extremis’ version of the Iron Man origin was already used for the first film, so I can totally see writer/director Shane Black going back that well again.
We’ll bring you more when we have it.
