Dragonball: The Anime – The Movie – The Game?

This is one of those scenarios where you know that the videogame equivalent of “broken telephone” is taking place somewhere in the world.

You see, first of all, a movie is being made about the popular anime, which a lot of fans are already shunning. Now, a game is being made of the movie that is looking to create a bad representation of the original anime. You still with me?

The thing is, Dragonball is basically about watching (or playing the current DBZ videogames) some crazy super potent people with tiny feet absolutely annihalate each other in mid-air using all sorts of fireballs and ka-mey-o-mayonnaise or something. It’s extreme, it’s ridiculous and it’s a whole lot of fun.

So what the heck has gone wrong this time around?

The problem with this new title, is that by going through all the different channels and recycling the concept enough, they have essentially made a game about fairly standard people with some powers and some really boring threads.

So what you have at the end of the day, is a game that looks like Tekken. While I love Tekken, this is a bit silly now isn’t it. Something is seriously wrong when a DBZ game turns up looking like Tekken and not like a ridiculous sky-bound bout of crazy hairstyles and colourful clothing.

Talk about losing the plot.

The home console versions were actually decent (Ahh, the days of the Saturn)
The arcade version was a WRECK.

They were actually different games, using different engines, but sharing sprites and BG.
