When it comes to tabloid journalism, you can’t beat the Sun. They’re a newspaper that somehow manages to sell boatloads of their rag that contains poorly-researched articles, with very little evidence to back up their sensationalist claims.
And they’ve done it again, because it seems that we may have all been enjoying a game or two of Call of Duty, with some no-good, rotten terrorists that are busy plotting to overthrow democracy.
Ironically, according the Sun, terrorists have been using games such as Call of Duty, Medal of Honour and Halo to plot their latest attacks, games which mostly deal with killing said terrorists.
Due to the fact that the fuzz are now monitoring all phone calls, emails and online correspondence on suspected persons of interest, these terrorists have allegedly taken to online chat rooms and gaming groups on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network, chatting privately about how to overthrow ideologies as violently as possible, through their headsets of mass distraction.
According to an unverified source who spoke to the Sun, the very idea of terrorists conversing is a “ Terrifying reality. These people waste no time finding a secure method of chatting”.
They are logging into group games over the internet and discussing terror plots. Security people know about it. For millions who love these games this will be a huge shock. To think fanatics use them for their own ends is a real worry.
According to the Sun sources, the reason why these games are chosen specifically, is because conflict games can easily disguise their real-world implication chats for in-game web chat. Apparently, such tactics have been used for the last five years by various terrorist and military groups, with the idea exploding into the underworld recently.
But fear not, brave citizens of democracy, because a random security expert told the Sun that “Those who fight crime and terrorism keep up to date with technological changes.” So be careful next time you play a round of deathmatch guys, because you could very well be contributing towards a Taliban effort to bomb…something.
