As you’re all likely aware by now, the 3DS saw a unprecedented price reduction, lowering the retail price of the device by a third. That the cut came less than six months after the systems release understandably upset and angered stalwart Nintendo fans. To make amends, Nintendo cooked up an Ambassador program, allowing early adopters to download 20 Nintendo games for free ; 10 NES games and 10 GBA games.
The program goes live tomorrow, and as long as you connected to the eShop (or downloaded the system updates) before the 11th of August, you’ll be able to download ‘em. Here are the 10 NES games that’ll be available tomorrow, with the GBA games coming later this year.
- Super Mario Bros.
- Donkey Kong Jr.
- Balloon Fight
- Ice Climbers
- The Legend of Zelda
- Wrecking Crew
- NES Open Tournament Golf
- Mario & Yoshi
- Metroid
- Zelda 2 – The Adventure of Link
Not a bad list of games at all. I have no complaints about having Super Mario Bros, Metroid and the Zelda games available for on-the-go-gaming, and the others will likely kick up some nostalgia. Oh, except for Mario & Yoshi, the uninspired and terribly bland block-matching puzzle game Nintendo affronted gamers with in the early 90’s. Super Mario Bros 3, arguably the best NES game ever made isn’t part of the deal – but an enhanced version of the game will be part of the Gameboy Advance line-up.
