Battlefield 4 drags down EA stock

BF4 building collapse

Battlefield 4 has been plagued with issues. At first people thought it was just a few kinks that needed ironing out at launch, and yet the game is still struggling, particularly on Xbox One and PS4.

Yesterday, Geoff told you that BF4 wouldn’t be getting any new DLCs until the game was fixed. Server issues, glitches, game ejections, the list of problems goes on and on. EA has released yet another patch to try to fix the PS4 version, yet problems persist on Xbox One and PS4 such as the game crashing after matches and continued server woes.

On the heels of this news, EA stock has tumbled 5%, closing yesterday at $21.21 compared to the previous closing price of $22.34. This is certainly not what EA was hoping for, yet it should have been seen far in advance. Even the BF4 beta was problematic – there’s no shame in the fact that the game was simply not ready. However, the fact that BF4 was released anyway has alienated gamers and tarnished the brand. This is not the levolution they were looking for.

Good. There should be consequences for releasing broken games, and pretending like it’s okay. Having it hit them in the money bags is the only way something might change.

Hopefully Bioware can keep the doors locked when EA comes to oversee the game development

Yeah, like they did with Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3……EA still havent learnt that gamers are going to be happy with half ass work.

i think they will be forced to learn now.the stock market is a tangible thing, and Battlefield is purely an EA game, its not a sub thing like Mass Effect 3 was with Bioware.
the impact that their own game had on the stock market will not go un-noticed.
hopefully its the kick in the crotch that they need to atleast get the release dates right.

they can tackle the DRM/microtransactions/useless DLC things later.

set for release in Q3 2014, and they already have a working beta which they showed off at pax ( i think )
they got 9 months to turn a working game into a finished product. sounds doable to me.
the Bioware games have atleast always been stable, so we can be fairly confident that the game atleast works 100% when released.

They’ll just issue a huge statement about fixes and the stockholders will go for it. Though I hope this doesn’t rectify itself soon, EA needs to learn.

EA Strikes again. Forcing develpoers to launch a game that’s not finished. Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, Sim City……..all great example to show that EA deserves to shamed……AGAIN.

Dude, I am basically an ME fanboy. And played that game every day for almost a year on MP (got into the top 15). The game is incredible and one of my top5……but the last 10 minutes were a kick in the balls to ANY Mass Effect fan. Bioware even confirmed afterwatds that the ending had been rushed to meet EA’s and Casey Hudson’s deadlines. It is still one of the biggest fan backlashes in Gaming history with a horde of people demanding a better ending, which we eventually got with the DLC.
Dont get me wrong, I LOVE THE GAME AND THE SERIES, but it was one of the biggest examples of EA rushing Bioware to complete a game in time for their ‘schedule’, and in the process ruining one of gaming greatest storeis until a DLC release 6 months later.
Still Bioware are amazing with how they handled it with all the free DLC and fan support. But it still happened 🙁

So you’re raging over an unfinished game because of the last 10 minutes of en epic 3 game series? I’m sorry, but I cannot understand how 10 minutes of a game which sucked for some people makes it unfinished. I didn’t need the DLC. I was happy just the way it was. It never felt unfinished. Not once. So, no. The game WAS finished. The ending made people upset, but not everyone. That doesn’t make it unfinished…

true, ME3 was not a rushed project and EA was not involved in that poor ending. It was all Bioware there… they fked up…

Glad you were happy with the ending, but when you have a FB group of over 60K people moaning and articles from reviewers and fans alike about it being one of the biggest letdowns in gaming history, you know there might be an issue.

Ok, you are correct, it was finished in terms of it not being buggy. There were no game breaking mechanics. And creatively Bioware can do whatever they like with the character. But rushing the finale of a 3 game series just to get it out on time does not make it right.
A year before the game came out, Casey Hudson went on record with multiple magazines and said that the choices you made in the ENTIRE series would result in vastly different outcomes in the finale. Now be honest Tosh, did the ending feel that way for you?
And THAT’s why I say it wasnt finished. Yes, it worked and the finale kind of made sense. But EA and Bioware over promised and under delivered.
Mass Effect is still my favourite series of all time. No doubt. But the FACT is that EA made Bioware ruch the game to get it out on time. And thats the issue here.

            *sigh*

Really? Well, you see, the entire 3rd game changed depending on your choices. Quite drastically in some cases (Mordin, my man). So because of 10 minutes in an ending (which I thought was brilliant, an anticlimax is a relevant literary thing, btw – used to great effect in mass effect), you’re debunking an entire game that would provide a different experience for millions while playing it. In effect (loving these puns, that’s a play on words btw) you could play the same 3 games 5 or more times and experience something different during the game every time, based solely on your choices made in each. The ending was to me perfect, it epitomises what the universe is to us, and what we are to it. We are nothing to the universe, it will go on without us. Our choices matter only in our own lives, the universe doesn’t care. Robots don’t care. They will go on without us, no matter what choices we make. What a fantastic statement to make, and sure its a buzz-kill for those who want to always be the hero. But you’re not. Not to the universe, not to a robotic civilisation. That ending was perfect.

And I must be honest here, the internet is filled with shallow, thoughtless, stupid people rushing to complain about something they don’t like, without taking a step back to appreciate a different opinion. I pity those people, for they are far more common than those who do think.

Im not talking about the whole game mate. Anything before the final scene was incredible and classic ME. Mordin’s scenes were probably some of the best in any game I have played. As was Thane’s. And even Grunt’s mission. Hell, I was even choked up with Anderson and Shepard’s dialogue at the end. But after that…. thats where things got annoying for me. Modin dies? Doesnt matter, red/green/blue. Wrex was killed in ME1? Doesnt matter, red/green/blue…..etcetcetc.
I suppose we will have to agree to disagree here. Looks like we both feel pretty strongly about this. I will agree that people moan for no reason and close minded on the internet. If your opinion differs to someone else, you are automatically wrong.
Also agree that ME3 is one of the best games ever made 🙂

BF4 has been such a disappointment. It just sucks that the game is so glitchy and buggy. When it works, the experience is phenomenal. I’ve kind of stuck with it the last month or so, but I have to admit, they had a legitimate chance to take down COD with BF4. This is truly a case of rushing a gun nest, lobbing a grenade and just as you think you’ve scored a victory, you trip and impale yourself on your own bayonet.

I think it’s pretty certain that EA is taking another Golden Poo next year, and I’m legitimately worried that Dragon Age Inquisition is going to be a rush job.
