Xbox Live Pirates Vs PSN Ninjas

By Geoffrey Tim

We surmised recently that PSN was the superior platform, on account of its Ninja costumes for home avatars. Some of you said that the inclusion of pirates on Xbox Live would level the playing field. Well, it’s time to put that test, as Xbox Live avatars will indeed be getting pirate costumes. A shameless marketing tie-in with Capcom’s Pirate-themed RTS …

You may remember that at the end of last year, when the NXE was released to all connected Xbox Live users, that offline gamers were promised the update via game discs. The time has finally come for offline Xbox 360 users to finally update to the NXE. Unless you really love the drab old bladed interface of the old dashboard, …

CelebAvatars.jpg Well, sort of. With the new Avatar system being integrated into the new Xbox 360 dashboard, some people have been hard at work (read: bored) creating avatar versions of some of their favorite characters and people including Super Mario, Kratos, Chuck Norris and more. Game characters, movie stars and political figures are in the line-up and heck even some really bad creations are in there too. I have posted a couple after the jump but you can check out the rest of them by following the link at the bottom of the article. chucknorris--article_image.jpg mario-happy--article_image.jpg princessleia-starwars--article_image.jpg source: Check out the whole bunch created by the guys at GamesRadar by clicking here.

Reminder: NXE arrives today

By Nick De Bruyne

Just a reminder to anyone who may have actually forgotten, today is the day that the New Xbox Dashboard Experience arrives. When you get home and switch on your Xbox 360, you will be asked to update. Once the update is downloaded and complete, you can start creating your avatar and messing around with the new layout. I am really looking forward to the new party chat that will allow 8 players to hook up and chat as well as move into game lobbies. All in all the new dashboard might not be as impressive as what Sony has planned for Home but I am really excited at the idea of never having to look at another dashboard blade go "whoosh" across my screen ever again.

I am totally unconvinced by the Xbox 360 avatars coming in the NXE however I have it under good authority that they are actually quite cool. Either way I guess we are going to have to wait for the NXE to be officially released to see what all the fuss is about. However not all of us have had to …

Lazygamer Hands-On Preview – Scene It – Xbox 360

By Nick De Bruyne

When I first got the early build of Scene-It , I have to admit that I wasn't really that excited to give it a go. I mean, I am quite a bit of a movie buff and I do love movie trivia, but these games weren't made for people like me were they? These games are made for those odd happy families that you see in Nintendo adverts aren't they, surely I would find it to be a little lame? Well, myself and a friend sat down to give it a go and we landed up being more than pleasantly surprised.... If you didn't know, Scene It is a trivia game similar to the Buzz series that has been seen in the past, except with a focus on movies. The game usually comes with four buzzer devices that allow players to hit the big red button and then select their answer with one of the colour coded buttons. We didn't get any buzzers for the early code, so we had to make do with the standard Xbox 360 controller. You go through a variety of multiple choice questions that are presented to you in a number of ways. There are complete movie scenes that play out, followed by questions about the scene or the actors that played in them, then you get a whole bunch of other fun questions, like a children's drawing of a movie scene that slowly gets drawn out, or photos from a movie that get revealed on by one. The quicker you are able to figure out what the scene is, the more points you get for the correct answer. Because of the game, we also got to see how the new NXE avatars fit into the whole scheme of things and on the whole, they seemed to do their job just fine, with nothing that special added but a nice touch at the end of the day, further softening up and the game and giving it a more casual feel. At the end of the day, we sat down to just see how the game was. So we tried to play through another round and then another and another until we had to force ourselves to put it down. The truth is that the game is actually a lot of fun to pretty much anyone who has ever watched a couple of movies in their life, and that's pretty much all of us isn't it? With games like this popping up, boardgames better start watching themselves because a game like this makes for a really wonderful social event with some friends and family.
