The Predator originally had a very different (and much better) plot

It takes a special kind of cocking up to create a Predator movie in the modern age that is largely regarded as the worst that the series has to offer. 2018’s The Predator looked brilliant on paper: Shane Black directing, plenty of practical effects and the film revolving around a crew of misfit soldiers as they find themselves roped into a fight with the cult classic alien hunter who has an agenda of its own this time. Instead what viewers got was absolute bollocks.

The Predator opens on a starscape of swirling gasses and pinpricks of lights that immediately reminded me of 1980s film studio Orion’s title sequence. That awesome nostalgic reverie is quickly forgotten though as two alien spaceships, sleek silvery shapes realized in shiny CGI, blast into frame noisily as they engage in an intergalactic dogfight. Watching it at the time, little did I know I had just seen a very apt summation of the discordant film to come.
