The Wii is nearing the end of its life. Nintendo’s replacing it next year with the Wii U, a tablet controlled console that seeks to bridge the gap that exists between the casual and the core. Though the Wii’s taking its last, dying breaths, that doesn’t mean that there’s not a wealth of incredible games still to be found on the system – and many of them aren’t even collections of waggly minigames!
Here are the nominees for best Wii Exclusive:
Kirby’s Adventure Wii (Return to Dreamland)
Fluidity
Skyward Sword
Kirby’s Epic Yarn
Bit.Trip Complete
And the award goes to:
Winner: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
The first real Zelda for the Wii is also the best; although it doesn’t stray too far from the Ocarina of Time template, Skyward Sword carves its own identity as not just one of the best Wii games – but one of the best games released this year on any platform. It’s a wonderful, exquisitely polished adventure game that utilises motion controls in a way that adds meaning – and not just needless waggle.
Runner-Up: Kirby’s Epic Yarn
