Disney’s latest film is hitting the world of video games hard and fast, in Wreck-It Ralph. And unlike all those other films based on gaming, this one actually appears to be worth watching.

See for yourself, as this trailer deserves some wreckognition for sure, thanks to all the gaming cameos.

Who can hate zombies, when they happen to know exactly what’s on our brains?

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Step Brothers”) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day.

But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s “Glee”) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, “The Sarah Silverman Program”) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade.

Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late?

Looks fantastic so far, and gamers will no doubt get a kick out of seeing Chun Li (Ha!), Pac-Man and various other gaming icons all in one film. Wreck-It Ralph is out later this year.

Hmmm. I’m not sure about this. The whole vibe of that trailer strikes me as something desperately aimed at “Yoof” cos they like video games.

There’s definitely a story there (defying your station in life, finding who you are, going after your destiny instead of waiting for it) but the feel of that trailer (particularly it’s desperately hip song choice) feels like pandering instead of a sincere story

Oh for sure. There’s probably going to be the whole “Stay true to yourself” schtick that’s been in EVERY single CGI  film over the last few years.

But as a gamer, I’m just keen to see all the digs and references to my favourite games emerging.

Saw it last night and the kitten whispers and tickle fights quote has had me laughing even this morning. We (our entire family) enjoyed the movie very much. I was concerned I wouldn’t, as an adult. On the contrary… I think it was written for adults. Fantsatic!
