Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

So a while back, Darryn and I did a monstrous throwdown for Friday Fight Club as we pitted Godzilla vs King Kong to see who reigned supreme. This was of course inspired by decades of geeks arguing about which monster movie was the greatest. Turns out we were both wrong. It wasn’t a movie about giant monkey with a fetish for screaming blondes, or a movie about a supersized lizard with radioactive halitosis. No, the greatest monster movie is apparently Sharktopus.

With the rate that Samuel L Jackson churns out movies, you could easily forget that he’s already pushing an age at which some would consider him an old man. So I guess it’s only right then that the prolific sextogenarian’s next big role is in Spike Lee’s remake of Old Boy. Jackson is said to have a small role as the jailer of Josh Brolin’s titular character. If you’ve seen the original film, then you’d know that Jackson’s character is probably in for a very short but very memorable scene.

With The Expendables 2 out, talk of Dirty Harry and Han Solo in an Expendables 3 and even a girly version of the explosive team in production, it seems like like there’s suddenly a whole lot of Ass Kicking Heroes out there. And you know what they need? Bad guys. Which is why Film School Rejects has put together this brilliant list of Anti-Expendables: 10 Bad Guys Who Should Team Up Against Sly and the Gang. The list is already amazing, but their pick for the no.1 spot is just pure inspired genius.

Regular Will Ferrell director Adam McKay has been trying to branch out from the funnyman business and for the last few years has set his sights on adapting Garth Ennis’ ultra-violent, ultra-controversial comic book The Boys as the way to do it. Unfortunately, most studios didn’t agree. But now it look’s the project may have some life again over at Paramount.

To celebrate the release of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark on IMAX, a new special poster for the film has been released. Artist Mark Raats may not be Drew Struzan (who is?) but he does a pretty great job of it.

Tom Hanks and Silent of the Lambs producer Gary Goetzman are looking to produce a new drama looking at the events leading up to, and the aftermath of the assassination of John F Kennedy. The film, Parkland, will be written and directed by debut director Peter Landesmann. Although this looks to be a more factual accounting of events than Oliver Stone’s JFK, which never let reality stand in the way of a good tale, I’m sure it’ll have the conspiracy theorist reaching for their tin foil hats as it takes it’s name from the Parkland Memorial Hospital, which is where JFK was rushed to after his shooting and where he was pronounce dead. His supposed killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, was then shot two days later and was also taken to Parkland where was declared dead. Four years later, Oswald’s killer, Jack Ruby also ended up dying at the same hospital. DUHN DUHN DUUUUUHHHN!

Looks like we’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see if Keanu Reeves has learned more than just Kung Fu, as his samurai film 47 Ronin has been pushed back to Christmas Day 2013. This is the second time that the film has been delayed from its original November 2012 release date, which really does not bode all that well for the production.

Lars Von Trier is a filmmaker known for pushing boundaries, and it was already made clear that his latest, Nymphomaniac, would be pretty controversial. But now recently announced cast member Shia LeBeouf has dropped a bit of a bombshell about the film’s large amount of proposed sex scenes. He was chatting to MTV with his Lawless co-star Jessica Chastain, and her response to his statement is simply classic.

So there you go. If seeing Shia’s LeBouf in that weird music video wasn’t enough for you, then you’re going to be able to see him having real, unsimulated sex on screen when the movie releases. The film also stars Nicole Kidman, Charlotte Gainsborough and Willem Dafoe, and I’m praying to every deity out there that he won’t be doing the nasty with the latter.

So remember how we were all pointing and laughing at Kristen Stewart last week after it was reported that Universal Studios were ditching the Snow White and the Huntsman star, in favour of a proposed spin-off focusing on Chris Hemsworth’s Hunstman, because of Stewart’s much publicized affair with director Rupert Sanders? Well, seems like we may have been laughing too soon. The studio has now come out to deny the reports:

“We are extremely proud of Snow White and the Huntsman and we’re currently exploring all options to continue the franchise. Any reports that Kristen Stewart has been dropped are false.”

The Raid: Redemption finally hit Blu Ray and DVD last week, so now none of you have any excuse for not seeing one of the best action films of the last few decades (hell, possibly ever). And to commemorate the release, Mondo – the greatest poster makers in the world – have released this amazing limited print for the film done by celebrated comic book artist Jock.

Also released is this behind the scenes look at the creation of the film’s soundtrack, which was scored for it’s international release by none other than Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda.

Winona Ryder is going to get shipped off to the Homefront, and no, it’s not because of her legal problems. Ryder will join Jason Statham and James Franco in the Sylvester Stallone penned action-thriller, which sees a retired DEA agent (Statham) forced back into action to save his family from small town thugs.

So by this stage, you’ve probably heard the terribly sad news of director Tony Scott’s death. Scott was one of the most prolific action directors of the last few decades and his movies not only inspired a whole generation of filmmakers but filmgoers as well. So here’s a look back at some of the highlights of this amazing career:
