PROMETHEUS Blu-Ray promises that questions will be answered

Prometheus is a touchy subject around these parts. Every time somebody starts a discussion about either my or Noelle’s review, it opens up a can of chihuahahs. Yes, chihauhaus. Worms are far too docile and quiet.

While I wasn’t as antagonistic towards the film as Noelle was, we both agreed that director Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof dangling these answers in front of your face and then yanking them away at the last second, was a cheap move. If you still feel slighted by this, then maybe you need to give them a second chance on Blu Ray.

The film will be getting its home release on October 9th and will coming out in two flavours: the standard 2 disc edition, and a special 4-disc collectors edition, that will have the 2D, 3D, DVD and digital copies of the film. But useless extra discs that you’ll probably never give a second’s thought to ever again, is not the only thing this collection brings to the table, as it will be boasting a whopping 7 hours of extra material, including 2 commentary tracks from Scott and Lindelof respectively, 15 minutes of deleted footage and, as you can see in the Blu-Ray release trailer below, five featurettes that addresses some of the film’s more contentious issues, such whether or not this is the planet from Aliens.

And here’s the full list of extras for the 2 editions (thanks to /Film):

Prometheus 2-Disc Blu-ray Extras

While I highly doubt that the answers to any of the film’s major mysteries will be addressed (like why Weyland would hire a crew of cowardly idiots with the survival instincts of a fruit fly for the greatest mission in mankind’s history?) at least this should hopefully help to quell the geekfights that keep breaking out all over the internet. Trust me, geekfights are nasty.

What questions? I have watched it three times now and it is pretty straight-forward what goes on.

Well, like I said, the big answers (like Why the Engineers want to kill us, what they were doing on that planet etc) will almost definitely not be addressed until the sequels, so this will be more for the nitpicky stuff.

The big answers are easy: the start of the film shows that we were made by mistake. It’s easy to surmise they were making weapons or something military-like on Earth. And considering their complex is littered with dead bodies, it is not hard to figure out why the engineer freaked when he saw several of their previous experiments walking around.

As for the small stuff – I’m not sure what answers people want. I was more confused trying to watch the second Transformers than this. Hell, the original Total Recall had more mystery. I can even explain why the characters did stupid things.

Ah, but that first scene is not as cut and dry as you think. Ridley revealed afterwards that that was maybe not Earth. Because if it was, it wouldn’t make sense because if we are a result of the Engineers introducing their DNA into Earth’s ecosystem to kick start life, then it doesn’t explain the millions of years of other animals that existed before humans came along?

And if we are merely weapons/experiments, then why the hell leave a map everywhere that just leads back to another testing facility?

There are quite a few of these, that should hopefully get addressed later.

The engineers didn’t kickstart life – the movie never suggests that. They kickstarted us. The actors make that clear at several points. And as for the map, rock paintings are hardly a way to find your masters if they want to be found. My guess is some alien left a backpack lying around and a few hunter/gatherers found his sketchbook.

Prometheus was fun, but about as deep as an ashtray. If you all loathed the film so much, why even care about all the nitpicked stuff? They came, they made weapons, they fucked off and, like any advanced civilsation, left their trash behind, which is how we found them. Mystery solved. Don’t listen to Ridley. After this and Robin Hood it’s clear he doesn’t know what he’s doing.

I never loathed it. It had some great moments, I just felt that it could have been better. As for the Kickstarting life stuff, that’s all Ridley Scott, but as you said, the guy has seriously begun to lose the plot lately.

Yeah, it could have been much better. But I’ve taken to seeing it in the same light as Event Horizon: a deeply flawed but somehow enticing sci-fi.

That’s fine. I will wait for the second movie to answer my questions
