It seems like now that the world has finally received its first glimpse of the Evil Dead remake, and in fact did not end in a cataclysm of fan rage, Sam Raimi can now concentrate on that other follow-up to a beloved classic that he’s working on. We’ve had couple of new posters recently for his Wizard of Oz prequel yarn, Oz the Great and Powerful, and now we get six rather lovely new images from the film itself.

And by lovely, I am of course referring to Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michele Williams. The lush and fantastical landscapes are pretty nice too.

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Firstly, I cannot be the only one who immediately thought of some Black Swan action when you see that image of Kunis and Weisz face to face. Let’s see these witches get wicked, am I right?!

Secondly, it seems like James Franco just can’t get away from all the CGI monkeys!

The first trailer painted a jaw dropping world of beaurty and I think it’s safe to say that irrespective of whether the film itself is actually any good or not, the visual fidelity of what Raimi has produced here is certainly not in question.

Expect to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz on 18 March 2013.
