WONDER WOMAN may indeed return in a new CBS TV series

Hey, remember when David E Kelley was busy working on a Wonder Woman TV show? While we might never ever see the pilot for it that starred Adrian Palicki dressed up as the character, the pilot bombed, and did so hard.

Still, the Wonder Woman character is just waiting for a shot at the big screen once again, and it looks like the CBS channel wants to wield that golden lasso. And according to their synopsis, destroy her in the process as well.

According to Deadline, the CBS network is busy scouting for an actress for the lead role, and are looking for one that happens to be in the tall range of 5’8″. Here’s the description for the TV series that they’re looking at creating;

She comes from a remote, secluded country and until now has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield. Because of relentless brutality of her life at home, Iris looks at our world with absolute awe and astonishment.

She’s delighted and just as often horrified by the aspects of everyday life that we take for granted: skyscrapers, traffic, ice cream. It’s all new and fascinating and sometimes slightly troubling to her. Iris is completely unschooled in our world, our culture, our customs. And she’s completely inexperienced at interpersonal relationships.

She has no social filter, does not suffer fools, and tends to do and say exactly what’s on her mind at all times. She’s bluntly, refreshingly honest. She can tell when you’re lying to her. And she doesn’t have time or patience for politics or tact because she’s too busy trying to experience everything our world has to offer.

There are too many sights to see and things to learn and people to care for. Hers is a true, noble, and generous heart. And she will fight and die for the people she loves.

Iris is a fierce warrior with the innocent heart of a romantic and she will fight to the death to make the world safe for innocents and true romantics everywhere.

(Insert sound of chirping crickets)

Allen “Gilmore Girls” Heinberg, who somehow got hit on the head hard enough to realise that he once actually wrote several issues of the Wonder Woman comic, is busy with scripting duties on this one, with the current label for the TV series being Amazon.

And seriously, I just don’t understand the logic behind this. While it’s acceptable that Warner Bros want’s to keep the character fresh for a Justice League film, why even bother with a TV show in the first place then, when it has nothing to do with the source material/characters/mythology/world/original ideas?

It sounds horrible and clichéd  and it makes the David E Kelley idea sound like a masterpiece in comparison. And in a TV landscape filled with shows set in older times, from Game of Thrones and Spartacus, how hard could it be to stay true to the core of the character?

Hell, look how long Xena ran for a couple of years ago, as she fought evil on a weekly basis in a leather dress that amplified her ululating abilities.

    Bah. Okay, I hate to jump on the Whedon brigade as usual, we all know that he will do most comic franchises amazingly but since there are other directors out there, I like giving them an opportunity as well. Thing is, with Wonder Woman, Whedon might be the only one actually qualified to do her justice.He practically invented ass-kicking female heroines on tv.

    Heinberg’s run on Wonder Woman was actually pretty decent (well that was until he bailed mid story to go write Grey’s Anatomy episodes) so that’s the only thing giving me the tiniest sliver of hope for this. And by tiny sliver, I mean you’d the hadron collider to actually see it.
