Jackie Chan is in EXPENDABLES 3, may do RUSH HOUR 4

Whenever we speak about our “dream team” for the next Expendables movie, for some reason Jackie Chan’s name virtually never turns up. Maybe it’s the fact that unlike those other musclebound action action men, Chan has somehow managed to flying kick time in the face and still appears far more sprightly than his 58 years of age.

Whatever the reason, it was always a glaring omission. Until now.

While doing the promotional rounds for his latest action blockbuster Chineze Zodiac aka CZ12, Chan revealed to Cinema Online that he’ll soon be putting his educated hands and feet to good use with Sylvester Stallone and the boys.

“Sly had invited me to be in ‘Expendables 2’ but I was too busy filming ‘CZ12’ and couldn’t make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes.”

Chan might have been weary of being Jet Li’ed, as the martial arts star only appeared for the opening scene of the last film, hence he laid down some playground rules. If he was going to be in it, it needed to be a ‘buddy-buddy’ movie he explained further. I’m not too sure what that means, but Stallone apparently does as he’s agreed and the script is currently being worked on to meet Chan’s demands.

If you’ll recall though, originally The Expendables 2 was going to be made PG-13, just to get walking internet meme Chuck Norris to join the project. But then after he was committed, the film went right back to a blood soaked R rating again. Whether the same switcheroo happen’s with Chan’s “buddy-buddy” demands is still to be seen.

Speaking of “buddy buddy” though, Chan also revealed that there are some plans in place to reteam with his Rush Hour co-star Chris Tucker, and that the proposed project might just turn into the fourth entry in the series.

“The script is currently viewed by Chris Tucker. Personally, I feel that if he were to pick it up, it would be better if we turned it into ‘Rush Hour 4,’ but I do think that three movies for the franchise is a perfect ending. It would be better to start a new buddy movie with someone new.”

Now I love Chan (no homo) and he had some great chemistry with Tucker in the beginning, but by Rush Hour 3 that chemistry had all but run dry, much like Tucker’s comedy repertoire. That may have been down to director Brett Hack-ner, sorry I mean Brett Rattner’s mediocre efforts behind the camera though, which leads to me lending my full support to “the fastest hands in the East” and “the biggest mouth in the West” rather teaming up for something new.
