Pumping testosterone by the truckload into Hollywood with his work on Conan the Barbarian, Dirty Harry, Red Dawn, Apocalypse Now and more, John Milius’ filmmaking approach is described as “He doesn’t write for p*ssies and he doesn’t write for women…he writes for men, because he’s a man.”
Despite how much success this manly movie making brought him, his anarchist politics essentially got him blacklisted in major Hollywood circles. This resulted in him spending more time lobbying Congress and helping to start the UFC (seriously, he designed the octagon cage) than actually making movies.
And now the whole affair is being brought to life in a new documentary simply titled Milius.
The life story of one of the most influential and controversial film directors in the history of Hollywood, John Milius. From his childhood aspirations to join the military to his formative years at the USC Film School, his legendary work on films such as “Apocalypse Now”, “Jaws”, “Conan The Barbarian”, “Dirty Harry” and “Red Dawn” to his ultimate dismissal from Hollywood due to his radical beliefs and controversial behavior. The film includes in depth interviews with Milius himself and others such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Francis Ford Coppola, Harrison Ford, Michael Mann, Robert Zemeckis, Oliver Stone, Bryan Singer, Charlie Sheen, Matthew Weiner and more.
Joey Figueroa and Zak Knutson will be making their directorial debut with Milius, which will see its premiere at the SXSW Festival this week.

Now this looks interesting, Milius directed one of my fav movies of all time, Conan the Barbarian. If only filmmakers would learn to let their leading men speak less with their mouths.
Nicolas Winding Refn to do a proper Conan reboot!
