Guilty Pleasures – Dude, where's my car?

Every actor has that one film, that one weird movie that they made before they hit the big time. For some, it’s a shameful flick. For others, it’s just plain crap. And then you get Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott, who found themselves in a mash-up of Cheech and Chong, low IQ and just plain retarded scenarios. And you’ve got to ask yourself one question:

Dude, where’s my car?

Two potheads wake up from a night of partying and can’t remember where they parked their car.

I love these flicks from the early 2000s. It’s back in an age where getting your face on TV was an idea that was reserved only for the talented and the insane, and everyone else just wanted to have a good time. And hell, it was to be stupid back then as well. And you don’t get any more idiotic than Jesse and Chester, two morons who got drunk enough to smash their way through reality itself and find themselves involved with everyone from space aliens to absurd cultists. Back before the Hangover was perfecting a formula, this was the stoner/alcoholic/thumb wrestling in helmets to watch. Because it was so weirdly funny.

That comedy. It’s so juvenile. It’s so simple. And I love it. Look at the tattoo scene for instance. It is literally just Kutcher and Scott repeating the same line over and over again. But they make it work. It’s just stupidly funny. And out of all the materials that a cult could use to create a unique look for themselves, why go with bubble wrap? It’s beyond idiotic.

And it just escalates from there. Saving the world, alien Germans, attack of the fifty foot woman…There’s a line between movies being just plain moronic, and films that are in turn so moronic that they transcend being crap and become genius instead.

Dude, this is one of those films.

Not as guilty a pleasure as my own personal guilty pleasure:

The Scary Movie series. The entire bloody lot of them.

    I find them hilarious.
