Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Ironic nicknames are stupid. Too often have you seen somebody called Beast turn out to be as timid as a puppy on Adderall. I say if you have a tough sounding name, then you need to back that talk up! And that’s apparently exactly what El Macho, the villain (voiced by Benjamin Bratt, who replaced Al Pacino), is doing. How do I know? Well take a look at this first pic of the erstwhile bad guy, wearing a bull’s nose ring and a bandolier of dynamite, and riding a chained, flying shark with rockets strapped to its fins. BADASS!

Six seasons and a movie, people! Six seasons and a movie! After the new last week that NBC had offered an olive branch to ex-Community showrunner and creator Dan Harmon  to return, after they sent him, and apparently a lot of the show’s best bits, packing a season ago, the news has come down that he has not-quite-so-graciously accepted. Harmon himself, revealed the news on Twitter as well as exactly who all us Community fans need to be thankful for.

“Yes yes yes! I’m back I’m back I’m back. You can thank @joelmchale.”

Thank you, Joel McHale!

Following on from last week’s esplosivo trailer for Machete Kills comes this, well esplosivo poster featuring Michelle “I don’t smile for anybody ever” Rodriguez.

Earlier today, we mentioned that it could be that Zack Snyder is possibly thinking of doing a sequel to Man of Steel, and right on cue to add fuel to the fire is Snyder himself. Now he specifically addresses two of the most glaring omissions in this version of Superman’s mythology, which some people might consider rather spoilery, so highlight the white text below, if you want to read it.

“Someone asked me, ‘There’s no Kryptonite and no Lex Luthor?’ I said, ‘Well, okay. Within the parameters of this story, there’s no Kryptonite or Lex Luthor, but that’s not to say that they don’t exist in the world. That’s an entirely different question.”

Whoo! Doctor Who is crossing over with the Marvel Universe! Sort of. Maybe. Okay, not really, but I had to get your attention. Not that that was actually necessary with the news that Scottish actress and former model Karen Gillan has joined the cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as the film’s lead female villain. Gillan is of course best known to most from her role on Doctor Who as Amy Pond aka The Girl Who Waited, the companion of the Doctor from Season 5 to the recently wrapped Season 7, and wearer of short skirts.

There’s no word yet on who she’ll be playing – and honestly even my vast comic geektitude is coming up with nothing on this one – but she’ll be joining the previously announced Lee Pace and Michael Rooker on the wrong side of the moral divide.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb has been a-twitterin’ again this weekend, and this time it’s nothing so boring as a silver locker. No, instead we have this really *ahem* amazing shot of Spider-Man swinging in.

It looks like Milla Jovovich is taking a break from making slow-mo, zombie-themed spank bank videos for her husband Paul W.S. Anderson, as the Resident Evil starlet is apparently “advanced negotiations” to join Sylvester Stallone’s badass-athon threequel, The Expendables 3. She’s joined in her negotiations by previously reported additions Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Jackie Chan.

You know, for somebody who was convinced that he was the greatest Jedi to do do everything ever and that rules didn’t apply to him, Anakin Skywalker sure was a bit of a douche to his mom. The moment Obi Wan stuck a lightsaber in his hand and gave him that tiny side ponytail, he promptly forgot about her, only going back when she was, you know, dying. Turns out though that he might not have been to blame for being such a horrible son.

No, this is not another picture (yes, another) on the internet of Darryn dressed up as an Asian housekeeper, but rather the first look at Japanese figure skater turned actress Fûka Koshiba in the title role for the live action adaptation of Kiki’s Delivery Service. The film is a translation of the first two novels Eiko Kadono’s witchy book series that was most famously adapted into a feature length animated film in 1989 by Studio Ghibli and acclaimed writer-director Hayao Miyazaki.

Will Smith’s latest film, After Earth, has not gotten off to a great start this weekend past (in fact, it’s his worst Summer movie opening since Wild Wild West), so you may think that he would need something to make himself feel better, like, oh I don’t know, counting the hundreds of millions of dollars that Men in Black 3 made. And after doing all that counting you would think that Mr Smith would then start thinking about maybe making more hundreds of millions by starring in another Men In Black film, but Smith is apparently hanging up the suit and shades.

“Uh, y’know… I think three is enough for me. Three of anything is enough for me. We’ll look at it and we’ll consider it, but it feels like that it might be time to let someone else do that.”

I’m calling it right now. There will be a Men in Black 4 starring Jaden Smith as a new recruit, because, hey, nepotism.

There are many, many things that were bad about Green Lantern, so singling out just one aspect is like trying to find a needle in a stack of needles. Except all the needles are turds. Which is why I am not particularly enamoured about the news that one of that film’s writers, Michael Green, has apparently been given the job by director Ridley Scott and Alcon Entertainment to script the Blade Runner sequel.

Green, who recently did rewrites of Spielberg’s Robopocalypse and WB’s Gods and Kings, will be reworking original writer Hampton Francher’s unproduced screenplay for a possible sequel, which is set a number of years after the events of the iconic 1982 sci-fi film.

Besides for getting to turn Sofia Vergara’s breasts into even deadlier weapons, Robert Rodriguez has been a busy boy. He teamed up with seemingly floundering mobile phone manufacturer Blackberry last year to produce short film for them in the Grindhouse style that he’s helped to popularize again. The film was a community driven effort though, with fans asked to help on certain aspects by creating the heroines’ weapons, a monster for them to fight, as well as an entire role for some lucky fan to play. And the resulting film, Two Scoops, is finally done and ready for your D-grade, cheesy, violent viewing pleasure.
