Man, no matter how you slice it, Earth is going to suck in the future. I blame that on older folks though, and also myself. Because I hate kids, and if I have to suffer in a world where I can’t afford a house, well screw them as well. Petty vengenace, hoooooooooo!

Still, Elysium is looking like an orbital paradise for the low, low price of just $500 million. So what’s it really like up there?

Pretty much paradise according to this first behind the scenes look.  As director Neil Blomkamp explains, Earth and Elysium are polar opposites of one another. That floating halo above the planet isn’t only home to the super-rich and successful, it’s also armed to the teeth with defenses for the 1%, leaving the rest of humanity below to live their days dreaming a futile fantasy of one day ascending to that heavenly space station.

Which is where Matt Damon comes in, as he happens to have a mission that involves him heading up there. Of course, that mission involves Damon hooking his body up to a cutting edge exo-skeleton suit. And by hooking up, I mean surgically attaching the suit to his actual bones.

And last but certainly not least, droids. They’re the main security force of future Earth, as well as everything else. But when it comes to security, they’re more than meets the eye.

Two new posters are also out for the film, including that gorgeous one from Mondo that was mentioned yesterday in the Extras.

Elysium (1)

Elysium (2)

Elysium suits up in August, and stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley.
