There’s probably a thousand clubs and bars out there, where up and coming singers and bands got their big break. And they’re probably all cleaner than the CBGB club as well. Still, that little slice of rock ‘n roll history is regarded as an icon today, much like the Cavern Club was to the Beatles and Whiskey A Go Go was to the Police.

The CBGB is getting the movie treatment right now though, as the history of that club gets the drama appearance. Plus Alan Rickman sporting an American accent, which is just plain creepy for some reason.

Alan Rickman is set to star as Hilly Kristal who, for more than three decades, owned and operated the famous New York nightclub until a rent dispute forced the establishment to close in 2006. The real-life Kristal tragically died the following year.

Looks like history is pretty much authentic in that trailer, minus the drama bits of course. The music was new wave and punk, the stage was unsafe, the bathroom made the one from Trainspotting look like a Ritz Carlton version in comparison and the locals were constantly drunk. The club closed its doors back in 2006, but not before it was disassembled and actually incorporated into the film itself as several sets. How’s that for authenticity?

CBGB stars Alan Rickman as club founder Hilly Kristal,Donal Logue, Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint, Ashley Greene, Johnny Galecki, Ryan Hurst, Justin Bartha and Bradley Whitford as members of Talking Heads, Blondie, The Ramones, Dead Boys, The Police, Iggy Pop and Patti Smith Group respectively.
