You have to hand it to Marvel – they really are taking their cinematic seriously, and they do seem to revel in the fact that they have the freedom to expand on their universe at their own discretion. While it is easy to pack the Blu-Ray of one of their films with tons of alluring features, they manage to go above and beyond what is needed with their direct-to-video short films called One-Shots.
So far there are three Marvel One-Shots in existence, the last of which was shipped with the Avengers Blu-Ray, and I loved it. It was called Item 47 and it starred Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford as a couple who find a discarded Chitauri weapon after the battle of New York, after which they decide to rob some banks. The great thing about Item 47, besides starring Lizzy Caplan, it was the first time I realised that the Marvel universe could work fantastically as a television series. There are so many stories to tell just out of the scope of the films and these One-Shots bring that fact across very clearly.
Well, soon we will get to see another character get a bit more fleshed out, as a clip has been released of the latest One-Shot which will be shipped with the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray, called Agent Carter. Hayley Atwell reprised her role as feisty Peggy Carter, who will get to be there hero as she searches for Zodiac, a criminal organisation that appears in the comics.
Once again Marvel makes it clear that they have the bigger picture in mind and that they have stories to tell and all I know is, this bodes really well for future films as well as Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD series.
Phase 2, I love you already.
