WARNING: There will be tears!
There are a helluva lot of mediocre movies out there; movies that you’ll probably have completely forgotten less than 24 hours after watching them because they left absolutely no impression. Then there are those movies that claw deep into your chest and triumphantly rip out your heart Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom style. Today’s Top List Thursday pays tribute to the latter – films that contain some of the saddest moments of all time. I guarantee you will have choked up at least once by the time you reach the end of this post.
P.S. Make sure to send the till slips for your bulk tissue and handkerchief purchases to The Movies c/o The Foundry Complex, P.O Box 14954, Wadeville, Gauteng, 1422.
For the record, the following films also made the shortlist for heartbreaking moments:
My Girl, E.T., King Kong, Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, the Clint Eastwood double of Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino, the Brad Pitt double of Legends of the Fall and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Watership Down, Dumbo, The Iron Giant, The Fox and the Hound, The Sixth Sense, Cast Away, Life is Beautiful, My Sister’s Keeper, The Pianist, Schindler’s List and The Champ. (Out of interest, this last one actually contains the “scientifically proven” saddest film scene of all time.

LOL Gladiator reminds me of a conversation with a friend:
him: “Did you cry while watching it?”
me: “No, of course not.”
him: “Me neither.”
me: “Especially not that scene where he’s reunited with his family.”
him: “Yes, I didn’t definitely cry there.”
me: “Me neither.”
him: “Because we’re men.”
me: “Yes.”

That movie. Sigh. Must rewatch. No one gave a shit when Joaquin Phoenix (sp?) dies. Treacherous little shit.
“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”
Goosebumps every friggin’ time.

Yeah, it was very sad when the cartoonist stopped drawing Bambi’s mother, totally.

That scene in I am Legend…I love animals much more than humand 🙁
Have not been able to watch Hachiko because even the trailer got me all emotional. Well, just thinking of it now, and remembering my little old loyal flee-bag that is gone… ;(

With you on that one. I feel humans can take care of themselves compared to animals that are basically at our mercy.

Same here, I’ve never seen Hachiko or even Marley & Me. I tell the missus to avoid films with animals in them, since I cannot stand it when the animals are hurt or dying.

The twilight end credits for the last movie. The scene is so powerful that you only need to hear that twilight is finally gone and you will cry for hours.

The power of withholding sex is a powerful one. It can make a man do crazy thing like watching twilight.

I’m with Sargon on this one… The severe blood loss from chewing my wrists, made it impossible to watch even the first movie!

My Girl was my worst. “His glasses! He can’t see without his glasses!”

Another one to add…the end of A Perfect World, where Butch dies. *gulp*

For animal movies – I’d definitely put in Hachiko, Marley and Me; & All Good Dogs go to Heaven.
I got to admit that My sister’s keeper & Millionaire Dollar Baby were pretty emotional too!

Holy crap, Love Actually. “To me, you are perfect.” or even “Just in cases.”

My Girl when she says “He can’t see without his glasses” That shit broke me badly.
Also when the cartoonist stopped drawing Bambi’s mother, that was nasty.
