With the latest Marvel film, Thor: The Dark World, out now, Phase 2 is starting to shape up towards the next big Avengers flick. We’ve still got some Captain America on the way when he deals with a Winter Soldier, but he’ll be followed soon by the motley crew of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Speaking to CraveOnline, director James Gunn had some new information to share about the project. Regarding the big bad for this flick, Gunn says that while Avengers tease Thanos will have a presence, it’s Ronan the Accuser that will post the biggest threat to the Guardians:

Thanos is a character in our movie. He works with Ronan. In my movie Ronan works for Thanos, and Ronan is the main bad guy in our film.

Guardians will also have some big sets for those fights to take place in. Like a space-prison so massive, that no one can hear you scream when you drop the space-soap:

We have a prison set that is 350,000 pounds of steel. Our sets are enormous. Anybody who knows me knows I really love the mix of practical and CGI effects and I carried that over into this movie. We have tons and tons of practical effects… I can’t wait for people to see it because it’s astoundingly beautiful.

Sounds like some cool elements coming together for Phase 2. Guardians of the Galaxy stars  Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Benicio Del Toro, Karen Gillan, Djimon Honsou, Gregg Henry, Glenn Close and John C. Reilly. It’s out next year space-August.

There was some up the other day, but it didn’t last very long before getting taken down. Looked so cool though.

Are you talking about the CGI trailer they showed at comicon? If so, I’ve seen that, and that isn’t any footage from the movie. That was a test to show what the characters would look like on screen before the project got the green light. If you’re not talking about that, dang, I missed it 🙁

Nope, that’s what I was talking about. I didn’t know it was a test though. Rocket Raccoon looked badass.

That wasn’t actually a CGI test. They had started production only a couple of weeks before Comic-Con, but they wanted some footage to show off during their panel. So instead of cutting a trailer from existing footage, they burnt the midnight oil and shot only the scenes that were used in that clip.
James Gunn said that they won’t ever release that clip to the public as an official trailer, because while those scenes were things they were planning to do in the movie, they may get changed or dropped completely as the production goes on. Or they may just end up looking 100% the same.
