This badass new trailer for 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE shows you the ecstasy of steel and flesh

There’s a commonly known adage about not reinventing the wheel, and – as addendum – especially not when said wheel is a fist pumping, CGI painted spectacle of blood, guts and glory that has garnered quite the fanbase. All the trailers thus for 300: Rise of an Empire, director Noam Murro’s sequel to Zack Snyder’s blood soaked hit, seemed to indicate just that: more of the same. But this new trailer, spouting an adrenalyzing soundtrack courtesy of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs”, hint at this, just maybe, actually being better.  At least my currently stupid grinning face certainly hopes so.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. “300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemisia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Irrespective of whether or not this movie falls horribly short and ends being nothing more of a cheap knockoff of its predecessor – and honestly, with all the overused slow-mo and untested acting acumen on display, that is a distinct possibility – at least the people behind it can know that they cut together one kickass trailer. I mean, how can you go wrong with Ozzy?

300: Rise of an Empire stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, David Wenham, Rodrigo Santoro, Igal Naor, Callan Mulvey, Jack O’Connell and Andrew Tiernan and opens in theatres – in slow motion – on March 7, 2014.

  1. “I mean, how can you go wrong Ozzy?”

When it’s recut/resampled garbage, sadly. Sorta like saying how can you go wrong with Beethoven, except the song you’re talking about is the dance hall version of one of his masterpieces. *sigh* I’m old.

Other than that, I’m not very hopeful, maybe they could POSSIBLY manage to have the rivers of blood and gore they wade through, leave at least a HINT of trace on the Spartans this time.

Yes, its sampled, but I think the song works in the context and pacing of this trailer.

Am I wrong to think the original was badass, enough? I mean, if it hasn’t got enough samples in it, why not do something revolutionary like…make your own goddamn song, and stop butchering my childhood. lol.

        I’m so bitter lol.
