Sony has been all about the arachnids lately, revealing their plans to expand their Amazing Spider-Man franchise into a cohesive universe. But they’re going about this in the most unexpected and potentially most exciting way possible: by spinning off into a couple of villain-centric standalone flicks. One such baddie movie is Venom, the Alex Kurtzman directed movie about Spidey’s symbiotic nemesis. And it looks this movie may just be filled with a little bit of carnage.

Since Sony launched the Amazing Spider-Man reboot in 2012, the studio’s marketing folk has been making use of the Daily Bugle Tumblr (a fake viral website created to mirror the news publication where Peter Parker aka Spider-Man works) as a means of expanding on the on-screen universe as well as hinting at things we might see down the line. The latest release appears to be fall in the latter category and it’s a doozy.

An “article” written by Eddie Brock has shown up, describing the capture of “escaped serial killer and notorious redhead” Cletus Kasady, who has been remanded to Ravencroft prison. Now as the comic book readers know, Eddie Brock is a erstwhile Bugle reporter and the human host of Venom, the black skinned alien Symbiote with a hate-boner for Spider-Man. Kasady was a deranged psychopath who came into contact with the Symbiote while sharing a jail cell with Brock. He would eventually get his own Symbiote and become Carnage, a completely insane but immensely powerful villain.

IGN picked up on this and so asked co-producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach about the possibility of Carnage showing up,to which Arad coyly replied, “What a great idea.” Tolmach was a bit more forthcoming though, all but confirming that it may happen when he added, “Exactly. The idea of Venom and Carnage… taking it into consideration. Watch out for this Venom movie. We are crazy excited.”

Venom, despite his constant battles with Spidey, was often portrayed as an anti-hero – or “lethal protector” as his comic used to label him – but it was still going to be a tough ask from Sony to convince audience to support a villain. Now they may just have found their way: Have people like your baddie by having him face somebody way, way worse. It makes complete sense and also gives Venom somebody to face that is sort of tied into his own origin story, which should help with the film’s narrative.

Currently, there’s no set release date for Venom, but as hinted at last week, we may very likely see it before the fourth Spider-Man movie, which is scheduled for May 4, 2018.

KILLER KASADY CAUGHT

By Eddie Brock

The greater New York tri-state area got a whole lot safer yesterday.  Captured late last night, Cletus Kasady, escaped serial killer and notorious redhead, was eerily calm and subdued when he eagerly surrendered to the FBI. The manhunt for the FBI’s Most Wanted felon ended innocuously in a small strip mall outside of New Rochelle, New York.

A barista at a local coffee shop recognized Kasady and eventually called the police.  The barista apologized to reporters later admitting she didn’t immediately alert authorities hoping Spider-Man would beat them to the scene.  “What can I say?  I am a HUGE fan.”

Kasady had been sentenced to twelve life sentences for the twelve murders he committed — but escaped while being transported between federal prisons. Sources say Kasady has been remanded to Ravencroft Institute for further interrogation until he is relocated to a maximum security federal prison. While the barista didn’t get her wish, we know Spider-Man thanks her… as we all do. For now it appears that Kasady won’t be causing any more carnage.

I would shit bricks if this was legit. My adoration for the psychopath knows no bounds, i’d love to see a live action adaption of both him and Venom.

I think Carnage is most people’s favourite, I don’t get why they haven’t really made the definite decision before.

Now if we could only get some brain toilet paper so people can wipe the shit stain Spiderman 3 left on their fragile grey matter regarding Venom, then I would say we are off to a brilliant start!
