It's Hitting The Fan In Season 2 Of Orange Is The New Black

What will happen to Piper Kerman? Fans of the Netflix series Orange Is The New Black are still stunned by the first season’s cliffhanger ending – a moment that will prove to be a real watershed moment for Kerman and her time in jail. Not as hyped as Arrested Development nor as acclaimed as House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black still managed to carve a big niche for itself last year and is now held up next to House Of Cards to motivate Netflix as the future of television.

Orange Is The New Black Season 2

It’s not hard to see why: the story takes place in jail, which is rarely used as a set – possibly because we’re all still traumatized by Oz. But it is also incredibly female-centric and cuts well beyond the usual woman-cliches (but smartly makes its male characters really offensive, weak and shallow individuals). On top of that it is a nice blend of drama and comedy.

Based on the popular memoir by the real Piper Kerman, her screen doppleganger finished season one on a violent note. While this certainly wouldn’t be the end of Kerman, it answers the question of how her year-long sentence will be extended for the sake of a second season. The new season starts in June, so a trailer has arrived to stoke our appetites.

Unfortunately it doesn’t show much – the usual characters are back and it is clear that threads from the first season will be picked up immediately. A few new characters are hinted at as well and the show is clearly continuing its expansion to tell a story beyond Kerman’s.  Fans will note that some characters are shown very briefly and one specific antagonist is not – so the mystery of season one’s ending remains unsolved.
