Early reactions to INTERSTELLAR calls Chris Nolan's latest "astounding"

Based on that incredible last trailer for acclaimed writer-director Chris Nolan’s (Inception, Dark Knight Trilogy, Memento) latest flick, I’m going to be spending quite a few hours looping Interstellar’s soundtrack over and over again. The fact that it has some kickass audio cues is one of the few things that we do know about this movie, which in typical Nolan fashion has been kept mostly under wraps.

But now we seem to know one more thing: It’s every bit as good as it looks. At least that’s according to some lucky folk who got to attend a special screening held for press, film industry folk and some random minor celebs. Normally these kinds of things have strict non-disclosure agreements, and while it seemed that all the press have observed this secrecy, it appears that the laymen didn’t quite get the memo as some reactions have now popped up on social media (thanks to Slashfilm for collecting them all). And damn, this sounds incredibly positive.

That is some really high praise. And while the opinions of Edgar Wright (Cornetto Trilogy, Scott Pilgrim) and Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) may normally carry more weight than most, it’s actually the opinion of the everyday folks that interest me the most. Chris Nolan himself has stated how this movie is pulling quite a bit of inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, a masterpiece that is in my opinion the greatest sci-fi movie of all time. But that’s just the opinion of a film nerd with a thing for trippy brainjobs; less nerdy people tend to watch it and just start wondering on whether they’ve taken too much drugs or not enough.

It was my fear that Interstellar was heading down the same divisive path, but these reactions show that the film could have huge appeal for both the geeks and the average filmgoer.

The next two weeks until the film’s release on 7 November is going to be one hell of a long wait. And to make it feel even longer, here’s that utterly amazing trailer again.
