Skydiving musclecars out of a plane, prison transports with remote controlled mini-guns, and roof-mounted grappling hook launchers. And that’s just the opening 20 seconds of this first trailer for James Wan’s Fast and Furious 7, and then it just keeps going bigger from there. If anybody had been worried that Wan – best known for directing low-budget scary movies like Saw, The Conjuring and Insidious – was not going to live up to the explosive, over-the-top, cartoonishly fun action shenanigans that franchise shepherd Justin Lin had got us accustomed to ever since he took over and revitalized the series from its 3rd installment onwards, well you can definitely stop fretting about it now.

It may have dropped half of it’s famous title, but judging from this trailer Furious 7 seems to be delivering the exact same action escapism that has turned it into a $2.38 billion franchise – Universal’s biggest moneymaker by far – only now its got the benefit of actually boasting a memorable villain in Jason Statham. Yes, the Stath is here and yes, he is indeed throwing down against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, which by itself would already be worth the price of admission. But on top of that we’ve also got crazy driving in crazy cars (of course), insane stunts that disregard the laws of physics, Paul Walker running on a bus, Statham vs Vin Diesel, Kurt Russell(!), explosive gun fights and the Rock seemingly flexing his way out of a cast. Yes, really.

And they haven’t even shown what violent acrobatics Tony Jaa is going to be bringing to this! Check it all out below!

Furious 7 also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Lucas Black, Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou and John Brotherton. It will be racing into theatres on April 3, 2015.

  1. They must be running out of ideas.
Fast 8 will be a race in space, trying to save humanity from something or other.

I’d still watch it though 😀
