Even though most people had the itis after a massive thanksgiving day feast, movie seats were still filled to capacity. Let’s see how the top ten did at the North American box office, and please pass the gravy.
Surprising no one, The Hunger Games stayed in the top spot, adding another $56.8 million to its coffers. Dreamworks debuted a new animated film, starring the cult-favourite commando penguins from the Madasgacar franchise that didn’t exactly set the box office on fire. Earning just $25.8 million, Penguins of Madagascar was behind recent Dreamworks debuts such as How To Train Your Dragon 2 ($49.4 million) and Kung Fu Panda 2 ($47.6 million). It is however, closer to the $100 million mark worldwide right now.
The Horrible Bosses sequel failed to live up to the original film, tanking with an opening domestic take of $15.7 million in fifth place. That’s way behind the original film, which made $28.3 million on opening back in 2011. Here’s a look at how everyone else did and the estimates:

Top ten departures this week include Fury and Beyond The Lights. David Ayer’s wartime action film disapointed many a critic who were hoping that the film would fail at the box office so that they could mention it “tanking”, but instead Fury came out out of the war with a rather well-earned $156.8 million worldwide, making back it’s $68 million budget and then some. Beyond The Lights only had a notable North American run, notching up a mere $12.8 million over three weeks, which is poor even for a film made on a scant $7 million budget.
