28-days-later

Every now and then, you get a movie in a genre that happens to be a game-changer. Takes 28 Days Later for instance. It set the bar for a new generation of zombies, albeit people who had become infected with a rage virus and had gone berserk. It’s as if someone had weaponised white ladies in post offices into drug form and unleashed it upon the world. 28 Days Later was followed up by a sequel in 2007 by the name of 28 Weeks Later.

So where’s the obligatory 28 Months Later sequel then? In a serious discussion stage, that’s where. Speaking to IGN, 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland says that a script phase, but that he was having serious talks with 28 Weeks Later producer Andrew Macdonald and 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle:

We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility.

While Garland will most likely return as an executive producer, much like he did in 28 Weeks Later, he sees the 28 Months Later nomenclature as a logical progression for the series. To a point of course:

It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years” he revealed. “28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss.

Bugger that, I want to see rage zombies causing hell in the vast universe of Warhammer, in 28 Millenia Later.
