For the last few years, we’ve had a running gag on our site that every time we refer to M. Night Shao Khan  – sorry, bad habit. I meant to say that that every time we refer to M. Night Scooby Doo Where Are You? M. Night Shyamalan (third time’s the charm), we come up with some new ridiculous variation of his name. The reason for this is simply because the once-vaunted director has become somewhat of a walking punchline over the years.

That doesn’t mean that can’t occasionally make an interesting film again. For example, take The Visit, a new horror film collaboration between Shyamalan and super-low budget horror flick producer extraordinaire Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious). Yes, it may be found-footage *spits* but it does appear to be the latest entry in that rare genre of “OMG! My grandparents are evil and trying to kill me!”. Check out the trailer below.

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series) welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit. Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.

The Visit stars Ed Oxenbould, Olivia DeJonge, Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie and Kathryn Hahn. It’s scheduled for release on September 11, 2015.
