Japan hates us. That’s the only reason I can come up with for why it’s been 19 months since the season 1 finale of hit anime Attack on Titan, and we still have about another year to go before season 2 debuts. Based on how every episode of the incredible show constantly left you wanting more, this wait is definitely what I would term “cruel and unusual punishment”.

Luckily we have a little bit of respite from this torture in the form of the upcoming two-part live-action feature film adaptation. We’ve seen a snippet of the first film previously, but now a full, English subbed trailer has also been released along with the news that the movies will be getting theatrical releases later this year in Australia and New Zealand (C’mon, South Africa!).

Much like the earlier footage we’ve seen, this merely shows us the various characters and gives glimpses of the titular Titans, but keeps all scenes showing off the show’s distinctive combat using the 3D Maneuver Gear under wraps. Guess, we’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see if they can actually pull off that kinetic action for real.

Check out the trailer below.

“Attack on Titan” is a post-apocalyptic fantasy set in a world where remorseless, flesh-eating giants have all but wiped out humanity, whose remnants are forced to live within a country surrounded by three enormous walls. The story initially centers on Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and their childhood friend Armin Alert, who join the military to fight the Titans after their hometown is attacked and Eren’s mother eaten.

Lack of action aside (also just ignoring the fact that Mikasa is supposed to be the only Japanese character), this is still looking pretty good to me. I like that they didn’t go for a ultra-realistic look for the Titans, as they are supposed to be a bit otherworldly.

And here’s some bonus trivia: The two-part movie was shot on the abandoned Hashima Island, the same island that was used as inspiration and recreated as the villain’s base in Skyfall. Besides for this just being a cool movie connection, it also gave the filmmakers freedom to really up the action and blow some stuff up. Some of which we’ll hopefully get to see soon.

Attack on Titan is set to be released in Japan on August 1, 2015, while the second installment, Attack on Titan: End of the World will arrive just a little over a month later on September 19, 2015.

Thing is, that would actually be more accurate. According to the anime, the only Asian person is Mikasa. Everybody else is from different European countries. This has actually annoyed quite a few fans of the anime/manga.
