It was a sleepy weekend for the US box office, due to it being Memorial Day. A weekend that normally guarantees some blockbuster returns, didn’t exactly ignite as Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland fizzled into first place with an estimated take of just over $40 million. That ranks for the 22nd biggest Memorial Day weekend, of all time.. Still, it’s got time to make some cash, as the flick is still on the way to a massive amount of foreign markets.

The only other major new attraction opening on that weekend, was the latest remake on the charts, Poltergeist. That flick did as expected, taking in over $23 million, while Mad Max: Fury Road is on track to be the kind of film that has some genuine staying power thanks to positive word of mouth.

Quick note, I’m getting conflicting reports on the actual weekend estimates, so take these results with a pinch of salt. I’ll update as soon as I get the proper results. Anyway, numbers!
