Sicario-poster

Emily Blunt showed a decided knack for action in Edge of Tomorrow and she’s putting it all on, and across, the line again in this trailer for Sicario; an upcoming crime thriller around the US’ War on Drugs also starring Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro, and directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners).

The official plot synopsis is as follows:

In Mexico, Sicario means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.

I’ll be honest, this trailer appears to be a prime example of one that doesn’t really hide its storyline’s twists and turns. If Josh Brolin isn’t running the cartel I’ll eat my non-existent hat. However the fun is always in watching the story unfold, and in this case it looks very intense with Emily Blunt’s Kate being dragged down a very deep and dark rabbit hole. The fact it’s been nominated for a Palme d’Or at Cannes says to me there’s probably a fair bit of meat for us to chew on while Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro chew on the scenery.

Sicario opens in the US on 18 September and stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Benecio Del Toro, Victor Garber, Jeffrey Donovan and Jon Bernthal.
