Gotham is a very weird, very silly show. Unlike the other DC Comics series that are raking in acclaim right now, Gotham is the kind of series that doesn’t really know what it wants to be. Heavy-handed foreshadowing of the rise of the Gotham City supervillains? Detective procedural? Another Batman origin story?

But the thing is, it’s the faults which make Gotham a great series. It’s goofy, it’s blatantly obvious and it’s gritty on every second Tuesday. It’s just so damn odd in its structure, that it somehow works.

And it looks like the second season will keep that trend alive, as the underworld assembles.

The good. The evil. The beginning.

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner?

What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told.

Ben McKenzie, Morena Baccarin, Donal Logue, Robin Lord Taylor, Sean Pertwee, Camren Bicondova, David Mazouz, Erin Richards, and Cory Michael Smith return for season two in September.

No Jada Pinkett Smith however. Which means a second season of not sniggering at the name “Fish Mooney”.

  1. Yeah, I do enjoy it. Definitely ridiculous, but also entertaining. I think that some of the strange decisions get cancelled out by some other great casting choices.

Glad Jada Pinkett Smith isn’t returning, was a good character in the start but her side story was getting stale.
