Terminator 2 will no longer be coming out on May 19, 2017, which is a good thing considering I saw it back in 1992. Time travel! Paramount has reportedly pulled the sequel (which was confusingly being referred to as Terminator 2) to last year’s Terminator: Genisys from its release schedule and decided to place it with the Baywatch comedy reboot starring Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson. A movie that is likely to be awful, but will probably still pull in a bigger audience than Arnie and friends because everyone actually wants to see its stars in their swimming costumes.

Paramount had originally announced plans for a new trilogy of Terminator films, with the next two to be released in 2017 and 2018, but following the terrible reception Terminator Genisiys received (despite still turning a profit), they felt there was not enough evidence to support any potential sequels, which I think is probably the right thing to do. While Terminator: Genisys was a fun movie that was more in line with the original story than some of the later sequels, the whole time travel formula and structure of the storyline has become too convoluted for the average person to understand and for those that do get it, the plot holes are infuriating. Plot holes and storylines that will now probably never be explained (for those of you keeping score at home, that’s now two planned Terminator trilogies that are dead in the water after one film, leaving dangling plot threads).

Interestingly enough, Variety reports that James Cameron will reacquire the rights to the Terminator franchise in 2019, so if anything is to happen with the franchise, it will probably only happen after that date. And only if James Cameron is interested in robots again after playing with all those Avatars. But I guess if anyone can make a good Terminator movie again, it will be the person that started it all.

I only wish Paramount could’ve chosen a better movie to replace it with. I think I would still watch a bad Terminator movie more than a Baywatch reboot – even if it is a R-rated comedy take on it. Come to think of it, I would probably go to the cinemas to watch Terminator 2: Judgement Day all over again.

That makes me sad, it was a decent Terminator movie. 3 is the one that should be shot into the sun.

Is it ironic that they’ve killed the franchise twice, first with “Salvation” and then with “Genisys”? I vote for the next Terminator movie to be called Terminator: Immortal.
