Could Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller's versions of THE FLASH ever share the same screen?

Unlike Marvel, DC Comics is keeping its TV and Movie universes wholly separate from one another. What that means, is that established characters on shows such as The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow won’t be sharing a larger screen with the pantheon of heroes currently being assembled. And nowhere is that more apparent, than in the casting of Ezra Miller as the fastest man alive.

That’s a role which is already being played on the small screen by Grant Gustin in the TV version of The Flash. Two different actors, two completely different takes on the same character. But what if the two were to ever cross paths? That’s the idea that nerd icon and podcast boss Kevin Smith asked during the filming of a TV special which laid the groundwork for DC Comics and Warner Bros. plans for their own cinematic shared universe.

“We did a piece where we talked about – I don’t know how much I’m supposed to say because they cut it out,” Smith explained on his Fat Man on Batman podcast about his role as the host of Dawn of the Justice League, in a bit that was eventually cut from broadcast.

But the idea [came up] of, ‘Hey man, DC is known for nothing if not a multiverse,’ so at which point I was like (to DC Creative Officer Geoff Johns), ‘Could they fucking crossover?’ And he was like, ‘Ahh.’ So doors are being left open and stuff like that. Think about this: You can have Ezra Miller be The Flash and you could also have Grant be The Flash, because there’s a multiverse at work.

And he’s a hundred percent right. That’s the beauty of DC’s multiverse: It’s a lot more established than Marvel’s own omniverse. There’s a ton of source material to work from, crazy Silver-Age stories and encounters that would make your head spin. It’s also perfect for upping the stakes, as the DC multiverse being opened up can give the DC Cinematic Universe the edge it needs to establish itself as a different player in the grand scheme of Hollywood box office gains.

It’s also already been done in The Flash TV series, as the fastest man alive from another dimension, Jay Garrick, has already made an appearance and set that show up for multiversal travel. It’s also more than likely a pipe dream, but there you have it. The possibility, is there. Gustin’s Flash can still be seen in his current second season on TV, while the Ezra Miller scarlet speedster will be running into cinemas sometime in 2018.
