So we already know that the next Guardians of the Galaxy film is going to focus on Star-lord’s relationship with his father, who happens to be a planet that somehow impregnated Star-Lord’s mom while in a human-form. So yes, the script is definitely going to be out there, but so was the last film and yet it all somehow worked out – and magically at that (Although if you’re like Nick, you thought the movie was great purely because it starred Chris Pratt and that was good enough for you).

However, one of the big talking points of the first movie’s script were the excellent lines that Vin Diesel had to work with. All his character Groot had to say was ‘I am Groot’, and that was about it. He could have added an ‘Ek is groot’ for good measure, but didn’t. And yet, that simple line seemed to work so well. And while we never had any clue what Diesel’s character was trying to say, it seemed clear he always did.

And for the sequel its been revealed by director James Gunn and Diesel himself that a special edition of the script actually exists for the character of Groot, which is used to help Diesel know exactly what it is Groot is saying in his different variations of ‘I am Groot’. Gunn revealed the special version of the script in a special Facebook post himself:

This is the special Groot version of the script that only Vin Diesel and I have, where every Groot line is printed in English instead of Groot, so Vin will know what the various ‘I am Groot’s’ mean. I love putting this thing together.

Gunn went further to add that while the first film was about building a family, the second film is about being a family, which is a lot harder. So while the script will focus a lot on Star-Lord’s weird family background, expect the whole cast of characters to need to work on getting along together through all their differences.

Gunn recently gave Diesel a first look at the sequel, and they both subsequently jumped onto Facebook live to share initial thoughts on the film and its characters. It’s great to see the actors response to the viewing, but also pleasing to know that they are moving along nicely in post-production. We can at least rest-assured that this is not Warner Bros and that they are unlikely to do many drastic edits to alter the movie. Expect Gunn’s vision to remain intact for this one.

You can watch the full video below:

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast includes the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan and Sean Gunn. New cast members include Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell as Ego.

So how many ways do you think you can say ‘I am Groot’ before it starts to mean something?
