She's got the whole world in her hands

The 68th Annual Emmy Awards was held at The Microsoft Theatre in sunny Los Angeles last night, and here (via Coming Soon) are the biggest winners of the night that everyone outside the industry doesn’t really care about beyond a few shrugs, a “cool”, and the odd “that’s nice”:

(Winners are in bold)

  • Outstanding Drama Series
    The Americans • FX Networks
    Better Call Saul • AMC
    Downton Abbey • PBS
    Game Of Thrones • HBO
    Homeland • Showtime
    House Of Cards • Netflix
    Mr. Robot • USA

It’s the regularly nominated Game of Thrones‘ turn to win this year. Which regularly nominated show will it be next year?

  • Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Matthew Rhys as Philip Jennings, The Americans • FX Networks
Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill, Better Call Saul • AMC
Kyle Chandler as John Rayburn, Bloodline • Netflix
Kevin Spacey as Francis Underwood, House Of Cards • Netflix

A win for Rami Malek who portrays one of the most complex characters currently on TV.

Viola Davis as Annalise Keating, How To Get Away With Murder • ABC

This is one I’m really pleased about, Tatiana Maslany has been knocking it out of the clone park the last few years.

Ben Mendelsohn as Danny Rayburn, Bloodline • Netflix

Another rather predictable choice in the comedy field.

Laurie Metcalf as Dr. Jenna James, Getting On • HBO
Lily Tomlin as Frankie, Grace And Frankie • Netflix
Amy Schumer as Amy, Inside Amy Schumer • Comedy Central
Ellie Kemper as Kimmy Schmidt, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt • Netflix
Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer, Veep • HBO

And we’re three for three in the major comedy awards. No one and/or everyone saw this coming.

  • Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series

Judith Light as Shelly Pfefferman, Transparent • Amazon
Gaby Hoffmann as Ali Pfefferman, Transparent • Amazon
Anna Chlumsky as Amy Brookheimer, Veep • HBO

Something to cheer her up after Ghostbusters.

  • Outstanding Limited Series
    American Crime • ABC
    Fargo • FX Networks
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story • FX Networks
    Roots • HISTORY
    The Night Manager • AMC

Because everyone loves celebrity crime stories.

  • Outstanding Television Movie
    All The Way • HBO
    Confirmation • HBO
    Luther • BBC America
Sherlock: The Abominable Bride (Masterpiece) • PBS

Lili Taylor, American Crime • ABC
    Kerry Washington, Confirmation • HBO
Kirsten Dunst, Fargo • FX Networks

Hugh Laurie, The Night Manager • AMC
Jesse Plemons, Fargo • FX Networks
David Schwimmer, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story • FX Networks
John Travolta, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story • FX Networks

I’m getting the impression people really like this show.

Regina King, American Crime • ABC
Sarah Paulson, American Horror Story: Hotel
Kathy Bates, American Horror Story: Hotel
Jean Smart, Fargo • FX Networks

I’m guessing they got confused and thought this was American Crime Story – it’s not, it’s much better.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver • HBO
The Late Late Show with James Corden • CBS

    Bob’s Burgers • The Horse Rider-er • FOX
Phineas and Ferb Last Day of Summer • Disney XD
The Simpsons • Halloween of Horror • FOX
South Park • You’re Not Yelping • Comedy Central

As much as I love Archer, I found this last season to be rather weak so I’m a bit surprised by the win.

And there we have it – the biggest winners on the smallest screen for this year.

What do you think? Are you happy with the winners or are there some baffling winners and nominee-snubs?

Sometimes I think that’s how half of these nominations are done.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series – This is a murderer’s row of talent and had you asked me a few weeks ago I would have gone with Liev Schrieber as a personal favourite but having watched Mr. Robot recently, Rami Malek is outstanding.

I’ve just started watching Ray Donovan, great series, and he’s damn good in it. Think Jon Voight’s character is much better though – can’t help thinking the old man must be having a lot of fun with Mickey.

Ray Donovan has great casting all around but Ray’s character is the most compelling for me.
