So I posted yesterday about the PS3 being beaten once again in the US by both the Xbox 360 and by a much larger margin the Wii.
Well while that may be disturbing the big bosses at Sony headquarters the latest sales figures from Japan will have them reaching for the champagne.
For the second week running the PS3 has outsold the Wii by quite a decent margin as well.
PS3: 53,000
Wii: 36,000
360: 5,700
The 360 is still receiving no love in the land of the rising sun and I think it is pretty safe to say now that it will come stone last once again over there.
The latest price cut seems to have been the kicker for the Japanese and there is no reason why this upturn in fortune should end any time soon.

So the PS3 sold roughly 50,000 more than the XBoX in Japan.
The XBoX sold roughly 50,000 more than the PS3 in the US.
What about the PAL regions?
Of course the Wii is still the chief destroyer of the universe!

VGChartz has the total hardware sales for the week as well.
Wii – 420,340
360 – 225,330
PS3 – 223,714
So the 360 and PS3 are pretty much equal at the moment and the huge gains the PS3 has made in Japan are very much helping them.

Yeah, before they were only selling about 20,000 more than the XBoX which was relating to a 5 to 1 hiding but was not huge in number terms. But now the 50,000 units makes up for the US sales.
But DAMN, look at the Wii go!

Surely those VGChartz dont include the EU?
The numbers dont seem right.

The PS3 is keeping up with the Xbox360 right after a price cut, I wonder what will happen when the Xbox360 cuts it price.

@Abev, they do include Europe and other territories but you have to remember that only the US and Japan are very open with sales stats. The others are all a mixed bag and therefore not accurate.
Which is why I generally only report on the US and Japan.

The PS3’s lead in Europe is slight is about 10k units per month, almost all of which are attributable to Spain and Italy!
