Before anyone says anything I need to make something very clear. I did not write this and am not responsible for any raised blood pressure that may come from it.
Someone over at gametrailers.com called killerhurtalot (I hope that isn’t his real name) has compiled a 5 page list which compares the PS3 and 360 in every technical way possible.
It doesn’t appear to be biased towards either party and is a great document to refer back to when you are looking for only the facts.
To sum up the main facts.
1. PS3 CPU (Cell) IS MORE POWERFUL THAN XBOX 360 CPU (Xenon)
2. PS3 HAS LESS AVAILABLE RAM THAN THE XBOX 360
this is because it has 256mb of dedicated ram and 256mb of dedicated graphic memory… the RSX CAN access the 256mb of dedicated ram but as a less efficient method and takes up the bandwidth of both the regular memory and the graphic memory3. PS3 GPU clock speed HAS been downgraded from 550mhz to 500mhz the GDDR3 memory has been downgraded from 700mhz to 650mhz. Xbox 360 gpu is clocked at 500 mhz
4. PS3 GPU (RSX) has 24 pixel pipes and 8 vertex pipes and the Xbox 360 GPU (Xenos) has 48 unified pipes
Remember these are all facts and not opinions…. For the full and very technical details follow the link.
In a total nutshell, neither has a huge advantage over the other.
