The Nintendo execs have been dropping hints again about a new piece of hardware currently in development over at Nintendo HQ.
At the moment there is absolutely nothing solid about what the piece of hardware is but the current top guesses are a motion controlled DS and a Wii HD.
Personally a motion controlled DS sounds incredibly stupid and a Wii HD sounds entirely logical so I am going for the second one.
Think about it, the only major problem people have with the Wii is that low res graphics and small processing engine. If Nintendo released an updated version with HD graphics and a real physics engine they could continue making the first party titles that casual gamers love so much and at the same time start publishing top quality hardcore games.
Their biggest problem would be the millions of current gen Wii owners who will get incredibly confused by the idea of 2 different versions of the same console…
With Nintendo’s complete domination of the current generation I don’t expect them to be making waves at the moment but as soon as they start losing a significant chunk of market share I expect them to come out swinging in full HD.

As long as I can play Metroid and Mario Galaxy in HD, I’m in. If it doesn’t upscale old games though, I just can’t imagine myself getting one.
