Users of the matte new 4gb Xbox 360 S are reporting that that Halo Reach, undoubtedly the biggest game of the year for Xbox 360 owners, is booing them out of co-op games.
The reason, apparently, is that the 4GB console has insufficient storage to cache the game’s sprawling levels. Worse, it’s not even a bug; The issue is known to bungie and Microsoft.
According to Halo Reach’s XBOX support site :
Q1: The error “One or more players do not have an Xbox 360 Hard Drive. An Xbox 360 Hard Drive is required to play co-op on Xbox LIVE or system link†occurs when I try to play. Why?
A1: One or more players do not have a certified Xbox 360 hard drive attached to their Xbox 360 console. Some multiplayer aspects of Halo: Reach require an Xbox 360 certified hard drive.
The same issue comes up with the much Halo ODST as well. while you may think adding a USB drive would fix the problem, it apparently doesn’t. Adding a Microsoft certified Hard-drive would fix the problem, but they’re not available at retail anywhere other than the US at the moment, meaning 4GB S owners are missing a large – and to me, most appealing – part of the Halo Reach experience.
Thankfully, no other modes are affected, as standard multiplayer and single player modes are confirmed to work just fine. So, if you were planning on getting one of the new 360 S models with Halo Reach, and hoping to bolster its storage through USB, you may wish to save up a little more and get that 250Gb instead.

“Want to bolster storage with a USB drive, sure! But you need one of expensive hard drives if you want to actually do somethings the system was meant to do”
Silly Microsoft.
