Normally, I would prepare you for the tear jerking nature of the video you are about to watch. However, I think it’s best if you just revel in the music and design of this game without any introduction.
And here it is for those without YouTube goodness.
Yes, Lost Ark is an extraordinarily good looking ARPG. It’s made by South Korean developers Smilegate, famous for their free-to-play (and massive money maker) CrossFire. And just when I was still hoping that maybe this gorgeous game might not also be free to play, Geoff sends me this link with the following quote to crush my dreams:
Our reader ‘Federico Aguilera’ has informed us about Lost Ark; a Korean isometric action RPG that is powered by Unreal Engine 3. Lost Ark is being developed by Smilegate, will be a free-to-play title, and will enter its closed beta testing next year.
The game’s website is entirely in Korean, so I can’t give you any more details. We don’t even know if the game will make it to the West. But with those visuals, I might even be willing to overlook the fact that it will be a free-to-play grindfest – did you see those cherry blossoms?
And thus, the tears. Why must such gorgeous games be ruined by being free to play, or having ridiculous DLC, or being broken at launch, or any other thing that makes us all cry? Why can’t we just have awesome games that we can love from day one until forever? Excuse me while I go get some tissues.

I don’t really see why people are crying about free to play before it is even released? DOTA 2, Path of Exile, Hearthstone, Might Quest for Epic loot, Team Fortress 2, all of these are very successful and very viable as actual free to play titles.
They are not unbalanced and broken, they do not force you to buy squat to get good cards, most of the premium items are purely fluff that doesn’t give people who buy them an edge over anything else.
Do not see why this game can’t be with in those ones, instead of the pay to win variation.
On another note though, the game looks absolutely gorgeous and pretty damn fun, it would be cool if it see’s localisation
